Antony M. Merck
Antony Merck is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Navigational Sciences, Inc. and has a distinguished career in the maritime industry. Mr. Merck holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Virginia. He attended the Universita per Stranieri in Florence, Italy and the College of William and Mary. In 1973 he received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Mr. Merck has served as a Commissioner for the Federal Maritime Commission in Washington, D.C. From 1989 to the present, he serves as the Trustee of private investment trusts. From 1973 to 1994, Mr. Merck served as a partner in the law firm of Buist, Moore, Smythe, & McGee in Charleston, South Carolina. His focus was principally devoted to admiralty and maritime law representing ship owners and protection and indemnity insurance clients in litigation and matters involving personal injury, cargo damage, charter disputes, bills of lading, contracts of carriage and affreightment, immigration, collision, and international commercial arbitration. Mr. Merck provides the Board with a key element of regulatory knowledge of the maritime industry.
Eric L. Dobson, Ph.D.
Eric L. Dobson, Ph.D. is the founder, Vice President of Market Strategy, and a Director of Navigational Sciences, Inc. Dr. Dobson received his BA in Geography from the University of Tennessee in 1991, his MS in Geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of South Carolina in 1993 and his doctorate in Geography from the University of South Carolina in 1998. From 1995 until 2000, Dr. Dobson was employed by Technology Planning and Management Corporation at the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coastal Services Center as a information technology subject matter expert. In 2000, Dr. Dobson founded Navigational Sciences, Inc. to commercialize advanced wireless technologies and GIS-based asset tracking, security, and condition monitoring solutions to create a global asset tracking and control system. Dr. Dobson was responsible for the concept development of NavSci's global asset tracking system architecture and the licensing of revolutionary wireless communications technology developed at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). In 2004, the joint development effort of NavSci and ORNL was awarded a National Laboratory Consortium Technology of the Year Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer. In 2004 and 2005, NavSci was awarded a Department of Homeland Security Phase I and Phase II Small Business Innovative Research awards for a Marine Asset Tracking System. Dr. Dobson previously served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors for NavSci since its inception.
Jeffrey R. Dobson, Ph.D.
Jeffrey Dobson is President and CEO of Data Research and Applications, Inc. (DRA), which he founded and has served as Chairman for twenty years. DRA's product line includes fault tolerant (critical online computing) data storage, data communications, hardware development, and software design/development. Dr. Dobson is also the Chairman of Nanolume, Inc. Dr. Dobson has extensive experience in both domestic and foreign marketing and sales as well as business management skills. He received his BA in 1967, MA in 1974, and Ph.D. in Geography in 1978 from the University of Georgia. Previous to DRA, he served in the US Navy and subsequently as the Manager of GIS for TRW working on the MX Missile System. Dr. Dobson has also held academic positions at the University of Georgia, University of Alaska, University of Illinois, and Ohio State University.
Robert W. Middleton
Mr. Middleton is a founder and director of numerous private companies and has extensive experience in providing investment-banking services for development-stage companies. He has served as a director of two public companies. He is a founder and director of Milkhaus Veterinary Products, Inc., ZymeQuest, Inc., and Applied Semiconductor, Inc. Mr. Middleton also serves as a managing director of Nanotech Capital. Mr. Middleton has been an officer, director, and branch manager of one member firm of the New York Stock Exchange (Burgess & Leigh, Inc.) and a General Partner of another (Fahnestock and Company). Over the last five years he has chaired The Middleton Group, Inc, Member NASD, SIPC. Mr. Middleton completed course work for a BA in English at Princeton University.
Arthur deWitt Ackerman
Arthur deWitt "Terry" Ackerman has been involved with entrepreneurial endeavors and sales for most of his career. From 1967-1980 he had a successful career with Home Life of New York where he was a member of the Hall of Fame and a Charter member of the Top of the Round Table. Since 1980 he has been an investment banker for resource and technology companies, raising over $40,000,000 for early stage companies. He is also an angel investor in technology and renewable energy companies, and in a LEEDS community in the Mohave Desert which will incorporate hydroponic farming, water production, solar power generation, and residential and resort facilities.
